Rowing Machine Steady State
Full-body cardio with a strong posterior-chain bias—learn the stroke first.
Quick answer
Legs drive, then hips, then arms; recover in reverse. Keep strokes smooth at an easy-moderate pace for 10–25 minutes.
Rowing rewards technique. Yanking with the arms early is the classic mistake. Watch a form video, then earn your longer pieces.
Form cues
- Legs → hips → arms on the drive
- Arms → hips → legs on the recovery
- Neutral spine; don't collapse at the catch
Common mistakes
- Arm-pulling before the legs drive
- Rounded spine under fatigue
- Stroke rate so high that power disappears
Programming notes
1–3×/week steady pieces, or occasional intervals once technique is solid.
