Cable Chest Fly
Constant-tension fly for the squeeze and stretch without heavy joint loading.
Quick answer
Set cables at mid or high height. With a soft elbow bend, bring handles together in a wide arc until hands meet in front of the chest, then return with control.
Flies are not 'isolation magic'—they're a way to load the pecs through a long stretch with less absolute load than pressing. Cables keep tension where dumbbells go slack at the top.
If your shoulders complain on heavy presses, a cable fly block can keep chest stimulus high while you recover.
Form cues
- Soft elbows locked in place—don't turn it into a press
- Lead with the chest, not the hands yanking forward
- Slight forward lean with a stable stance
Common mistakes
- Straight-arm swinging that irritates the shoulders
- Using momentum and shrugging traps
- Cutting the stretch short every rep
Programming notes
3 × 10–15 as a finisher. Pair after compound presses.
