Machine Chest Press
Stable pressing path—ideal for beginners, high-rep finishers, or rehab-friendly loading.
Quick answer
Adjust the seat so handles sit at mid-chest. Press out to full extension without shrugging, then return with control until you feel a mild stretch.
Machines get snobbery they don't deserve. When you're learning pressing patterns, fatigued at the end of a session, or training around a cranky shoulder, a good chest press machine is a gift.
Set the seat height carefully—wrong height turns this into a weird front-delt raise.
Form cues
- Back flat against the pad
- Press through mid-chest height
- Exhale on the press; don't hold a death-grip breath the whole set
Common mistakes
- Seat too high or too low
- Slamming the stack on every rep
- Partial range for ego weight
Programming notes
3–4 × 8–15. Great for drop sets and controlled eccentrics.
